Oxford hit back early in the second half

Karl Robinson’s side improved after the break and levelled the scores when Mark Sykes’ ball from the right flew over Ryan Allsop and into the net.

United were on top after that but it was Wycombe who scored the next goal as Eastwood clattered into Fred Onyedinma inside the box.

Joe Jacobson stepped up and duly slotted in the resulting penalty to send Wycombe to the Championship.

But it’s Wycombe’s night and they’re up to the Championship

Oxford’s playing style is arguably easier on the eye but it was Gareth Ainsworth’s men who started the better and they took the lead inside ten minutes.

A menacing corner from the right by Jacobson put Eastwood into all sorts of difficult and Stewart nodded the ball home, however, replays show the defender’s header was not going in the net had it not struck Eastwood.

The Yellows responded reasonably well but failed to test Wycombe keeper Allsop, while Onyedinma blazed the ball over after finding space in the Oxford box.

The second half made a fairly subdued start but Oxford equalised on 57 minutes with Sykes’ incredible finish.

Only he will know whether he meant to lob the Wycombe keeper but his cross-cum-shot certainly did the trick.

The game appeared to have turned in Oxford’s favour after that but it Wycombe won a penalty eleven minutes from time.

It was a clear penalty which proved to be the decisive moment

A long ball found its way to Onyedinma and with Eastwood always second favourite to win the ball, the referee had no choice but to award the spot-kick when the striker was clattered into inside the box.

The ever-dependable Jacobson put the ball straight down the middle to secure a moment of history for Wycombe Wanderers.
